UK shoppers more upbeat than their European counterparts
UK CONSUMERS are feeling confident in the run up to Christmas and the New Year, survey data released today shows.
The consumer confidence barometer released by market research firm GFK yesterday stayed at minus two in November.
Despite the fact the figure is negative, it does not signify a decline. The figure also marks an increase from the score of minus 12 seen last November.
Nick Moon, director of GFK believes it could be higher.
“Since the Index began in 1974 we have seen scores of 10 or higher on several occasions.
“But unless the public gets another burst of good economic news it’s hard to see this happening anytime soon,” he said.
Meanwhile, the European Commission’s confidence index for Eurozone consumers rose to 100.8 in November from 100.7 in October, but is still at levels consistent with economic stagnation.
