Property mogul Vincent Tchenguiz sues Icelandic bank Kaupthing and accountants Grant Thornton for £2.2bn over fraud probe
Vincent Tchenguiz has filed a lawsuit for £2.2bn in damages against Icelandic bank Kaupthing and accountants Grant Thornton.
The case involves an investigation into property mogul Tchenguiz by the Serious Fraud Office that eventually collapsed.
“It is clear to me that the Serious Fraud Office was deliberately manipulated into investigating me by people who intended to cause me harm and were driven by commercial gain and self-interest,” Tchenguiz said.
Grant Thornton defended itself and two of its employees in a statement released yesterday. “Grant Thornton UK, Steve Akers and Hossein Hamedani deny all of the claims made.”
Kaupthing said neither the bank nor resolution committee member Johannes Runar Johannsson had received any communication about the claim and that the allegations had “absolutely no basis in fact or in law”.
