Ricky Gervais agrees The Office feature film and will return as David Brent
David Brent is coming to the big screen.
Ricky Gervais has secured financing for a feature film spin-off of The Office, the classic sitcom which launched him to fame in 2001.
According to Variety, Life on the Road will see Gervais reprise his role as David Brent, the excruciatingly awkward boss now be working as a travelling salesman and still chasing his rock star dreams.
Gervais said:
I'm so excited that the world will see what David Brent is up to now and where his future lies. This film delves much more into his private life than The Offive ever did and we really get to peel back the layers of this extraordinary, ordinary man.
As Brent promised at the end of The Office: "My world does not end within these four walls, Slough's a big place. And when I've finished with Slough, there's Reading, Aldershot, Bracknell, you know I've got to-Didcott, Yately."
The film will be distributed by Entertainment One (also known as eOne Entertainment), the company which has enjoyed success with Academy-nominated films such as 12 Years A Slave, Dallas Buyers Club and Foxcatcher.
No time-frame has been given for Life on the Road's release, but Office fans may have to wait a while before Wernham Hogg's former boss returns with Gervais writing and directing satirical comedy Special Correspondents for Netflix.
