Shades of London 2012 as Trott wins gold for Britain in Stratford
BRITAIN’S Laura Trott claimed her second gold medal of the UCI Track Cycling World Cup at London’s Lee Valley VeloPark by clinching victory in the omnium yesterday.
Olympic champion Trott, who was part of the triumphant women’s pursuit team on Friday, finished 12 points ahead of Belgium’s Jolien D’Hoore as Great Britain ended the three-day competition with four golds.
The 22-year-old had stamped her authority on the event by winning the first two of six events, the scratch race and individual pursuit, and was able to let D’Hoore make the running in the concluding points race.
Britain’s other gold medal winners were the men’s pursuit team – Ed Clancy, Steven Burke, Owain Doull, Andy Tennant and Mark Christian – and the madison duo of Doull and Mark Christian. The third and final leg of the World Cup series takes place in Cali, Colombia, next month.
