A pop-up “Breaking Bad” cocktail bar is coming to London… and it’s from the creators of the owl bar
London shows no signs of going off the fickle concept of pop-ups or novelty bars, cafes and restaurants.
The latest to join a string of limited-time-only haunts this summer is a pop-up themed around the hit TV show Breaking Bad.
From the organisers of the controversial bar which hosted live owls, comes a new cocktail bar in which guests will get a chance to "cook" cocktails – all in an RV, the type of vehicle famously used by Breaking Bad characters to make the drug crystal meth.
"Gas masks, blue crystals, chemistry flasks in a motorhome based cocktail bar? Oh yes, as Walter White said: 'We're just getting started'," organiser Seb Lyall of app Locappy says.
The bar, called ABQ after the setting of the TV series, Albuquerque in New Mexico, will open in London for three months from July.
Lyall faced equal measures of wonder and outrage over his previous pop-up, Annie the Owl, where guests were joined by real-life owls. While some people enjoyed the idea, animal welfare campaigners petitioned to ban the event over concerns the mixture of alcohol and animals was not fair.
While the "bar" did go ahead, the location had to be changed and alcohol was taken off the menu. On the opening of the pop-up, Lyall told City A.M. that while further events were planned, there would definitely not be any animals involved.
More than 2,000 people have already signed up for tickets for the newest animal-free pop-up.
