Prior sets up cycling team
ENGLAND wicketkeeper Matt Prior has co-founded a new professional cycling team with the expressed aim of competing at UCI Continental level.
Prior, who took a break from international duty in the summer to recover from achilles surgery, is the chief executive of One Pro Cycling, which aims to operate a level above UK domestic teams but a tier below Team Sky.
The 12-rider squad is led by Elite Road Series winner Yanto Barker and will feature a number of competitors who came through the British cycling ranks, such as Jonny Bellis, Jon Mould and George Atkins.
“The group of riders we have is an exceptional one, not only because of the team’s ability on the bike but also the spirit off it,” said Prior. “We have a team that could potentially do something very special.”
