N Brown digital move pays off as sales thaw
N BROWN yesterday said sales had picked up towards the end of the third quarter after warm autumn weather had forced the retailer to cut its full-year profit forecast in October.
The company, which targets older and plus-sized shoppers with brands such as Jacamo and Simply Be, said it returned to growth in October and November, with sales up 1.5 per cent and three per cent respectively.
Yet total revenue for the third quarter declined by 2.3 per cent, due to low sales in September.
Chief exec Angela Spindler has been shaking up its image as a traditional mail-order business by cutting back on catalogues through the post and ramping up its digital marketing to woo online shoppers. She said these measures were paying off with the number of active shoppers up by two per cent in the quarter year-on-year.
