Pacquiao next on Khan hit-list if Mayweather dodges Brit fighter
BRITAIN’S Amir Khan has trained his sights on pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather and eight-weight world champion Manny Pacquiao after dazzling on his latest super-fight audition.
Welterweight Khan reiterated his challenge to undefeated Mayweather after impressing in a unanimous points victory over American Devon Alexander in Las Vegas late on Saturday night. If Mayweather cannot be tempted to face Khan then Bolton fighter plans to engage Pacquiao, though that plan is complicated by renewed talk of his two main targets finally fighting each other.
“If Mayweather doesn’t happen, Manny Pacquiao is a great name,” said Khan, a target for Sheffield’s IBF champion Kell Brook. “We trained together, there’s a great storyline there. With Kell Brook, that fight will always be there but at the moment I want to catch the right guys because how long are they going to be in boxing for?”
Khan, in only his second bout at welterweight, outclassed former two-weight world champion Alexander. The three judges scored it 119-109, 118-110, 120-108.
Pacquiao, 35, yesterday fuelled talk of a long-awaited 2 May showdown with Mayweather, 37, who on Friday appeared to challenge the Filipino.
