These London law firms offer their trainees the highest salaries
Bright-eyed graduates eager to train at one of London's leading law firms may have to stomach long hours, however they can look forward to a bumper pay packet, according data from the industry website Legal Cheek.
Sullivan & Cromwell and David Polk (known as the "Tiffany's of law firms") offer new recruits £50,000 a year, putting them well ahead of the next-best law firm White & Case, which pays first year trainees £43,000.
Meanwhile four out of five members of the "magic circle" – comprising the most prestigious law firms Allen & Overy, Clifford Chance, Freshfields, Linklaters and Slaughters and May – are in the top 15.
But no silver circle law firm (or the tier below) comprising Herbert Smith Freehills, Ashurst, Berwin Leighton Paisner, King & Wood Mallesons, Macfarlanes and Travers Smith are in the top 15.
Travers Smith was the only silver circle law firm (or the tier below) to offer a salary worthy of the top 15, paying first-year graduates £40,000 a year.
