Pavey gamble pays dividend
BRITAIN’S Jo Pavey admitted the reward outweighed the risk after overcoming illness to claim the British 10km road title in London yesterday.
The 41-year-old European 10,000m champion was sick overnight and only decided to compete after warming up, but surged home ahead of second-placed Rebecca Murray in a time of 32 minutes and 56 seconds.
“It was a real gamble to run but I’m so glad I did,” said Pavey. “To win after a night like that is surreal.”
Fellow Briton Andy Vernon, meanwhile, won the men’s race in a personal best time of 28:38.
