Prince Ali Bin Al-Hussein elected president to beat Sepp Blatter in shock result
Prince Ali Bin Al-Hussein of Jordan is the new Fifa president after beating incumbent Sepp Blatter in a shock election result.
Blatter, who has served four terms as Fifa leader, was the heavy favourite to secure another four years in the role having enjoyed long-standing support from the majority of the 209 member associations outside the traditional football powers.
Uefa, European football's governing body, has led the charge for Prince Ali with its president Michel Platini even suggesting a possible boycott of Fifa if Blatter was re-elected. The USA, Australia and Uruguay were rare examples of Non-European nations showing public support for the Sandhurst-educated Prince.
However, in what appears to have been a last minute about turn from a number of Middle Eastern nations, Prince Ali secured just enough of the 209 votes to win.
