Fifa crisis: Interpol issues red notice putting Jack Warner, Nicolás Leoz, Alejandro Burzaco, José Margulies, Hugo Jinkis and Mariano Jinkis on most wanted list

Six former Fifa officials, including Jack Warner, have been placed on Interpol's most wanted list under charges including racketeering, conspiracy and corruption. 

 

A red alert, the highest possible apart from an international arrest warrant, was issued this morning on behalf of the US. 

 

As well as the Trinidad and Tobago official and former vice president of Fifa Warner, Interpol has issued alerts for Paraguayan official and Conmebol president Nicolás Leoz; Argentinian businessman Alejandro Burzaco, who is the controlling principal of Torneos y Competencias; Full Play Group bosses Hugo Jinkis and Mariano Jinkis; and Brazilian José Margulies (also known as José Lazaro), who controls broadcasters Valente Corp. and Somerton. 

 

Interpol said today the red notices “informs its member countries that an arrest warrant has been issued for an individual by a judicial authority and seeks the location and arrest of wanted persons with a view to extradition or similar lawful action”.

 

The global policing organisation added: “The individuals concerned are wanted by national jurisdictions and Interpol's role is to assist national police forces in identifying or locating those individuals with a view to their arrest and extradition.

 

“A red notice is not an international arrest warrant, and Interpol cannot compel any member country to arrest the subject of a red notice.”
