Goldman Sachs: Tories will win 2015 General Election
Banking giant Goldman Sachs has called the next election in favour of the Conservatives, adding that while the result remains uncertain, David Cameron’s party is more likely than Labour to form the next government.
In a note distributed to clients, three of the bank’s analysts wrote that while the influence of parties like Ukip and the Scottish National Party could skew the vote, the Tories will do better than current opinions polls suggest, winning either a small majority or forming a coalition.
The research will come as a blow to Labour, which has been struggling to refute claims this week that it will spend billions more than the coalition in the next parliament.
“While we do not deny that the outcome of the election is highly uncertain and that it appears unlikely that any party will gain an overall majority, our view is that the Conservatives are likely to do better than the latest opinion polls suggest,” Kevin Daly, Andrew Benito and Pierre Vernet wrote.
