City Link mapped: Which depots are closing down and where are the 2,586 redundancies being made?
The administrators of collapsed parcel delivery firm City Link have announced further redundancies as it closes depots across the country after falling into administration on Christmas Eve.
EY said 51 depots will close in the next week with the loss of another 230 jobs on top of the 2,300 announced on New Year's Eve, bringing the total number of redundancies to 2,586.
The first nine depots in Bangor, the Isle of Wight, Carlisle, Guildford, Scunthorpe, Aberdeen, Leeming, Gloucester and Lincoln will close today and the rest by 15 January, while 141 staff will be kept on at City Link’s Coventry headquarters and at some of the closed locations to assist administrators with winding down the business.
Joint administrator Hunter Kelly commented: “It is with regret that we announce further redundancies at City Link Limited, which will take effect over the coming days as the Company’s remaining UK depot operations close. Having returned a large volume of parcels to City Link Limited’s customers and recipients over recent days, it is no longer viable to continue operating these depots and a phased plan to close them has begun.”
20,000 parcels within the City Link network still waiting to be delivered will be sent to Coventry to be picked up by customers or redelivered by another parcel service.
