51 per cent of Facebook’s advertising revenue comes from overseas
Facebook brings in more advertising revenue from overseas than it does in the United States, company executives have said.
Some 51 per cent of global advertising sales in the first quarter of 2015 were from overseas – with the fastest growth in Asia.
Total advertising revenue for the first quarter increased 46 per cent – to $3.3bn. Approximately $1.7bn of this was from international markets, increasing by 36 per cent on last year.
While growth in Europe is slower than in the United States, the company is focusing on the Asia Pacific region. Speaking to Reuters, company executives said that advertising revenue grew by 57 per cent in the Asian continent.
Carolyn Everson, vice president of global marketing solutions at Facebook, said: "The next one billion consumers are going to come from these countries."
She added that mobile advertising accounts for more than 70 per cent of Facebook's total ad revenue, and that mobile is particularly attractive to advertisers in emerging markets.
