Cornwall, Scotland and Wales: These are the most popular destinations for a British summer holiday
Brits will be flocking to destinations across the length of breadth of Britain this summer, with almost two-thirds saying they intend to take a holiday in the UK.
According to research for the Post Office travel insurance domestic holidays report, popular BBC drama Poldark has made Cornwall the most coveted home holiday spot – a title it shares with Scotland.
Other desirable destinations include Wales which came third, followed by Devon, Lake District/Cumbria and London in joint third place.
However the survey also suggests Brits are increasingly opting for home holidays in the countryside over seaside breaks.
Only five per cent of respondents said they would be holidaying in locations such as Blackpool, Brighton and the Isle of Wight.
By comparison, more people said they planned to holiday in the Lake District, Yorkshire as well as the Peak District.
"The explanation for this may lie in a clear preference for countryside breaks," it said.
