Worries subside over Surrey duo badly injured in on-field collision
SURREY all-rounder Moises Henriques was last night facing dental surgery and a further 24 hours in hospital following the horrific on-field collision with team-mate Rory Burns on Sunday.
The duo were knocked unconscious during their side’s T20 Blast clash against Sussex at Arundel while attempting a high catch. Both received emergency medical attention before the game was abandoned.
Australia’s Henriques broke his jaw in three places while left-handed batsman Burns had blood pouring from cuts around his left eye and required stitches. Burns was set to be discharged from hospital yesterday.
“Both of the boys are in good spirits and bearing up well,” read a club statement. “Rory is expected to be discharged this afternoon. Moises will be spending another 24 hours in hospital and will require further dental surgery.”
The club had earlier tweeted: “Latest news on the two boys. Both Rory and Moises are in decent shape following their operations overnight.”
Surrey, meanwhile, finished the opening day of their county championship fixture with Glamorgan at Guildford on 289-6. Openers Arun Harinath and Zafar Ansari struck 120 and 91 not out respectively.
