Kent tops Lonely Planet’s 2015 ranking of the best places for a family holiday in Europe
Attractions such as the White Cliffs of Dover, Dover Castle and Canterbury Cathedral have helped Kent top a ranking of the best places for a family holiday in Europe.
"Kent isn't described as the garden of England for nothing," according to a ranking of the best family destinations by Lonely Planet's Best in Europe 2015.
"Within its sea-lined borders you’ll find a fragrant landscape of gentle hills, fertile farmland, cultivated country estates and fruit-laden orchards.
"It could also be described as the beer garden of England as it produces the world-renowned Kent hops and some of the country’s finest ales and wines from its numerous vineyards."
County Kerry in Ireland came second because it "appeals to the imagination of travellers of all ages".
Two other UK destinations made it into the ranking.
Welsh beauty spots Skomer Island and Marloes Sands came ninth and were praised for their ability to "enthral young visitors".
