Guardian Media Group to name new chief exec
GUARDIAN Media Group (GMG), owner of the Guardian newspaper, is set to appoint deputy chief executive David Pemsel for the top role.
A board meeting on Tuesday decided the promotion, which is due to be announced today, according to Sky News.
Pemsel has reportedly seen off competition from an unidentified UK-based Google executive and will provide continuity for the company as current chief executive Andrew Miller prepares to step down after five years at the helm.
Miller, who oversaw the sale of GMG’s remaining stake in Auto Trader for £619m last year, is standing down as chief executive at the end of this month.
Pemsel is a former marketing director of ITV and advertising executive at St Luke’s agency. He joined Guardian News & Media in 2010.
Charged with returning the group to profit, Pemsel joins at a time of change for the company.
Alan Rusbridger, who was the Guardian editor for 20 years, has just left and the group’s flagship newspaper is now being edited by Katharine Viner. Meanwhile former deputy editor Janine Gibson has been named as head of BuzzFeed’s UK editorial operation.
