Sainsbury’s CFO role expanded
SAINSBURY’S said yesterday it has expanded finance chief John Rogers’ responsibilities to include business development and online as one of the retailer’s senior directors prepares to step down.
Helen Buck, who was previously responsible for business development, will be stepping down at the end of July to join wholesaler Palmer and Harvey as chief operating officer after 10 years at Sainsbury’s.
In his expanded role, Rogers will oversee Sainsbury’s group strategy, Mobile by Sainsbury’s, Sainsbury’s Energy, Netto, online and new business.
This is on top of his existing responsibilities of finance, property, procurement and Sainsbury’s Bank.
Rogers joined Sainsbury’s as director of corporate finance in 2005 and was appointed to the operating board as property director in 2008. He was promoted to his current role two years later.
He was one of the main contenders to take over from chief executive Justin King when he stepped down last year. The role went to Mike Coupe.
