Richard Caring toasts a rise in sales at his restaurant empire
Richard Caring’s collection of restaurants and nightclubs recorded a rise in sales in 2013.
His company, Caprice Holdings, which includes some of London’s most celebrated eateries in the Ivy, Le Caprice, Scott’s and J Sheekey, saw sales rise three per cent to £53.3m in 2013.
Its sister company Mark Birley Holdings, which owns Harry’s Bar, recorded a two per cent rise in sales to £20.6m. Meanwhile Annabel’s, the Mayfair members club frequented by A-listers and royalty, posted a one per cent rise in sales to £8.5m according to figures seen by the Sunday Times.
Accounts for all three companies are overdue and expected to be filed at Companies House soon.
Richard Caring made his fortune in the rag trade, building up his father’s clothing business to the point where he supplied clothes to most of Britain’s leading retailers including BHS, then owned by his long-time friend Philip Green.
He moved into the leisure sector after buying up Wentworth Golf Club, which he has since sold, followed by Caprice Holdings in 2005. Caring has recently launched a number of new restaurant chains, including Grillshack in Soho. He also has stakes in members club Soho House and Bill’s restaurants.
