Premier League: Ings is ready for England call-up, says boss Dyche
BURNLEY 2 WEST BROMWICH ALBION 2
BURNLEY manager Sean Dyche talked up Danny Ings’ England hopes after the striker helped ease relegation fears, despite West Brom coming from two goals behind to claim a draw yesterday at Turf Moor.
Ings scored his eighth of the season and set up the opener for Ashley Barnes, but Baggies winger Chris Brunt cut the deficit and substitute Brown Ideye equalised with the fourth headed strike of the match.
A point lifted the Clarets out of the Premier League’s bottom three, and Dyche paid tribute to Ings, 22, who has been tipped for a possible first senior England call-up by Roy Hodgson next month.
“He’s a fine talent, there’s no two ways about it. I can see why there are certain people in the media asking about England call-ups, not necessarily to start but in the squad,” he said.
“He was excellent again today. He’s effervescent, his movement, his quality. He’s growing into the league, he’s understanding it better. He’s a tremendous talent and we’re delighted we stuck to our word and he’s still a Burnley player.”
West Brom’s fightback saw them climb to 15th, two places above Burnley, as manager Tony Pulis earned consecutive away draws.
Barnes nodded in a high, hopeful ball across goal from Ings to open the scoring in the 11th minute and his strike partner headed the second from George Boyd’s cross just after the half-hour mark.
Brunt, replaced as captain by new signing Darren Fletcher, pulled one back from a corner just before half-time and £10m misfit Ideye glanced the equaliser 23 minutes from time.
