Natalie Bennett: Green Party leader odds slashed after awkwardly “excruciating” media interview on LBC
The odds of Green party leader Natalie Bennett being replaced have been slashed by bookies after a disastrous appearance on an LBC radio show.
A car-crash interview in which Bennett was unable to remember any policies on the day of the launch of the party’s manifesto ahead of May’s General Election, has been dubbed one of the most awkward party leader performances ever.
Ladbrokes has now slashed odds on Bennett being unseated as leader of the Greens before May – from 50/1 to 10/1.
Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: "Political punters didn't take too kindly to Bennett's latest media appearance. Having previously been seen as safe, there's now a chance she doesn't lead her party on polling day."
At the launch of the manifesto at the Royal Society of Arts, Bennett admitted the performance was “excruciating” and that she had suffered a “mind blank” and a “mental brain fade”. She later apologised to members of the Green party over the disastrous performance.
It's a blow to the challenger party which has sought to appear on the public stage on a level pegging with established parties in the upcoming leaders debates scheduled for April.
