But Greenwich Peninsula – as the area at large is being re-branded – is hoping it’ll have a lot to offer Londoners in years to come. A huge regeneration project has begun to attract a more varied set of revellers to this former industrial landscape, as well as students and hopefully many residents. Developer Knight Dragon has shouldered much of the burden, hoping to deliver 10,000 new homes in the next 20 years.

 

 

Set over 160 acres, the ambitious scheme will create five new districts bounded by water on three sides; Upper Riverside, Lower Riverside, Parkside, Brickfields and Meridian Quays. Where an old power station and industrial warehouses once stood, an art gallery and theatre space have sprung up on a jetty overlooking the Thames. A golfing range will also arrive in the summer, allowing players to hit a drive towards their office in Canary Wharf, while a vast film studio to rival Pinewood is also in the pipeline. Add to that a 5km riverside running track, two hotels at the end of the Peninsula, new Stevie Parle restaurant Craft with interiors by Tom Dixon and plans for a new public green space called Central Park, and all that’s left to make it a functioning part of London is people. 

 

New homes from developers Bellway and Barratt London are currently under construction, but Knight Dragon’s latest contributions went on sale this month. Situated in the Lower Riverside district, The Fulmar and the Waterman offer studios to a £1.95m four bedroom penthouse between them. The 10-storey Fulmar set among a landscaped courtyard. The Waterman, on the other hand, promises dual aspect views right on the river from a 30-storey tower designed by Pilbrow & Partners, also responsible for new City landmark The Pinnacle. 

 

 

Luxury extras at The Fulmar include a reading room, while The Waterman boasts a wood-panelled residents’ club. Residents of both buildings will also have access to the Aperture, Knight Dragon’s take on “the old City Hall”, housing a nursery, event spaces, prayer rooms and a two-storey gym.
