Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson suspended by the BBC after “fracas”
Controversial Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson has been suspended from the BBC after a "fracas" with a producer.
In a statement today, the BBC said Clarkson had been suspended "pending investigation", and that "no one else has been suspended".
It added that Top Gear would not be broadcast this Sunday.
Top Gear is one of the BBC's most successful shows – sold to 214 territories worldwide, it's the world's most widely viewed factual TV show, according to the Guinness Book of World Records. BBC Worldwide reports it has 4.5 million unique users, while 8.9 million people have downloaded its apps.
But Clarkson has been at the centre of several scandals involving alleged racism. While filming a Christmas Special, Clarkson and co-presenters Richard Hammond and James May were criticised by locals while they were filming in Argentina for using a number plate that was perceived to be a joke about the Falklands War.
