England set for Ashes misery, insists McGrath
FORMER Australia fast bowler Glenn McGrath believes England’s current form shows all the hallmarks of prompting another humiliating Ashes whitewash during this summer’s series.
England folded in the final Test match at Sydney to compound a dismal 2013/14 series during which England were hammered 5-0 by Australia – only the third whitewash in Ashes history.
Despite England recovering from an inauspicious start to win their previous red-ball series 3-1 against India last summer, McGrath insists their wretched World Cup woes are likely to take their toll.
“If you go back to the last Ashes series in Australia, England were beaten quite convincingly, then to play like this [at the World Cup],” said McGrath.
“ I think they are going to find it pretty tough. I can’t see why it won’t be a 5-0 Aussie win. If Australia play like they did last summer, I can’t see England beating them.”
