Societe Generale
Societe Generale Corporate and Investment Banking has announced two appointments in its global finance division. Alvaro Huete (pictured) becomes deputy head of global finance and head of global finance for the UK. He was previously global head of syndications and has also worked at Nomura, Banco Urquijo and Lloyds Bank. Terence Shanahan, previously deputy head of syndications, becomes global head of syndications. He started his career in BNP Paribas’s fixed income derivatives group in 1987, and has also held roles at Morgan Stanley.
Metro Bank
Julie Barnsley has been appointed head of private banking at the bank. She joined Metro Bank shortly after it opened in 2010, and will retain her responsibilities as commercial banking director. Barnsley has also held roles at Barclays and Bank of Scotland.
Peel Hunt
The corporate broking, advisory and trading house has announced two appointments to its healthcare and life sciences team. Dr Tom Burt joins as assistant director in its corporate team from Ares Life Sciences, where he was an investment manager. He has also held roles at Novo A/S, Piper Jaffray, and GlaxoSmithKline. Catherine Isted joins specialist sales. She has previously held roles at Merck Sharp & Dohme, Nomura Code, Morgan Stanley and ABN Amro.
GAIN Capital
The online trading firm has appointed Nigel Rose as chief financial officer and executive vice president. He is currently the company’s group finance director, and has previously served as chief financial officer of City Index Holdings, and finance director of Blue Square.
Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher
The law firm has appointed Chris Haynes and Steve Thierbach as partners. They both join from Herbert Smith Freehills in London, where Thierbach was global head of capital markets and Haynes had been a partner since 2002. Thierbach has also held roles at Linklaters and Sullivan & Cromwell, and Haynes previously worked at New Zealand firm Bell Gully. They will continue with their equity capital markets practice.
Afex
The global payment and risk management solutions provider has appointed Tony Rea as Europe, Middle East and Africa sales director. A former professional rugby league player, since 2012 he has run Game Plan, a business and performance management consultancy.
Renaissance capital
Dan Harvey has been appointed director on the investment bank’s equity trading desk in London. He has over 20 years’ experience as director of equity trading at both HSBC and JP Morgan, and will focus on metals, mining, central and eastern Europe, and European frontier markets.
