Mark Lawrenson: Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers’ time could be up
Under-fire Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers could face the axe should his side lose any of their next three matches, according to former Reds defender Mark Lawrenson.
The Anfield club were winless in five games before needing penalties to scrape past League Two side Carlisle in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday. This bleak run of form follows an outlay of nearly £80m in the summer, while Lawrenson believes league clashes against Aston Villa and city rivals Everton, either side of a Europa League tussle with FC Sion, may seal Rodgers’ fate.
“I don’t think Rodgers can afford to lose any of his next three games,” said Lawrenson. “Aston Villa is massive and then we have the derby. It’s a massive 10 days for him. Absolutely massive.
“It’s just not working at the moment. Liverpool have gone back to being a bit rudderless, characterless and to seem to have lost their way.”
