Chaos on Tube and train network as body found on line near Waterloo East and signal failures cause overcrowding at Bank and London Bridge
Southeastern was forced to cancel several services into south London this morning after a body was found on the line.
The body was found near Waterloo East, and police are now investigating. A spokeswoman for the train operator was unable to give any further details, although she said Southeastern was hoping to have all services back up and running by midday.
A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: “We were called to the line near Waterloo East station on Friday (2 October) at 7.24am to a report of a body on the tracks.
“BTP attended with medics from London Ambulance Service and a man was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers are now working to establish how the man came to be on the tracks and inform his family.
“The incident is currently being treated as unexplained.”
It comes on top of major delays across the Tube network this morning, with overcrowding and delays at Bank, Waterloo and London Bridge.
Bank Station was forced to shut for nearly half an hour after becoming overcrowded during rush hour, affecting the Central, Jubilee and Waterloo & City Lines, as well as the DLR.
Trains on all lines were not stopping at the station for some time, while the Waterloo & City service was halted entirely.
A video posted by one commuter showed the extent of the crowding it was causing, as commuters spilled out onto the street around the busy junction.

The problem was exacerbated by a signal failure at London Bridge, which caused severe delays on the Jubilee line. There is currently no service between Waterloo and Canary Wharf.
The signal failure occurred around an hour ago and is still causing travel chaos now.
