Feeling artsy? Battersea Power Station signs hotel deal with art’otel
Is this a sign the £8bn Battersea Power Station development is coming over a bit hipster? The development company behind the massive new scheme has signed a deal with super-hip hotel chain art'otel to manage the 160-room hotel due to open in 2019.
The garden of teh new hotel has been designed by the team behind New York's ultra-cool High Line, so expect snazzy touches – including an outdoor rooftop pool overlooking the (rebuilt) chimneys of Battersea Power Station.
Guests will be welcomed by a "multi-purpose creative space offering a rotating calendar of exhibitions, as well as cultural and artistic events supporting established and up-and-coming artists alike".
Meanwhile, the hotel's interior will "draw inspiration from the award-winning art'otel Amsterdam, which fuses innovative design with urban, discussion-provoking art".
The hotel's part of phase three of the overhaul of the site, which is due to complete in 2019. Phase three will include more than 1,300 homes – although given they start at £1.4m, it's likely to be one for London's upper echelons. It'll also include a new high street and Nine Elms station, an extension to the Northern Line.
