Anderlecht 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur: Mauricio Pochettino accuses Spurs of lacking focus during Europa League defeat
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino accused his side of lacking focus following their surrender of a one-goal advantage for the second consecutive Europa League match against Anderlecht last night.
Former Fulham loanee Stefano Okaka was the hosts’ second-half matchwinner after midfielder Guillaume Gillet had cancelled out Christian Eriksen’s early opener. It was Anderlecht’s first victory over English opposition in European competition since 2000.
Their demise in Brussels followed the late concession of an equaliser at Stade Louis II earlier this month and left Group J in the balance, with Tottenham second, level on points with Anderlecht in third, and one adrift of leaders Monaco.
“We’re very disappointed, not only for the result but also the performance because I thought we started well but after that we lost our focus,” said Pochettino. “We’re upset and need to learn. We need to be at 200 per cent all the time or you pay.”
Tottenham have never won in Belgium, while the north London club have just one victory from eight away Europa League matches.
