Sick of email? Google’s artificial intelligence software Smart Reply can write your emails for you
Sick of emails taking up half of your workday? Google’s got a solution for you in the form of artificial intelligence.
Google has unveiled Smart Reply, software that can now write emails for you. The tool writes automatic responses to certain emails.
Google software engineer Bálint Miklós wrote about the new tool on the company’s official Gmail blog:
When you're checking email on the go, it can be cumbersome and time-consuming to reply to all or even some of them. What if there was a way for your inbox to guess which emails can be answered with a short reply, prepare a few responses on your behalf and present them to you, one tap away?
The AI software, which will be rolled out later this week, uses machine learning to recognise what kind of emails need responses – and how to craft natural replies to these. It’ll then suggest up to three different responses to an email that you can choose from.
This isn’t a moment too soon, considering we spend more than a quarter of our working day dealing with emails. Surveys have found that we’re spending as much as 13 hours a week replying to emails.
