George Clooney: Hollywood heartthrob eclipses Scottish Business Awards 2015 night
Every big event needs a big name to go along with it. But is there such a thing as too big?
The guys over at the Scottish Business Awards certainly don’t seem to think so, this year adding Hollywood A-lister George Clooney to their impressive list of speaking alumni that already boasts serial entrepreneur Sir Richard Branson and former US President Bill Clinton.
Although Clooney is best known for his on screen performances the actor, with a net worth estimated at $180m (£118m), has significant real estate holdings and has a stake in Tequila brand Casamigos.
While the organisers of the awards are understandably keen to make a lot of noise about Clooney headlining the event, the businesses and people shortlisted for awards have fallen somewhat off the radar as a result.
Clooney, who was last in Scotland 10 years ago for the Live 8 charity music festival, will woo attendees at the awards tonight, after spending the day in Edinburgh visiting Scottish Business Award founder Josh Littlejohn’s not-for-profit sandwich shop, Social Bite.
Staff at the growing charitable business are allegedly “unbelievably excited” to meet Clooney.
Let’s hope their enthusiasm extends to the awards themselves.
