Fifa vice-president Michel Platini to receive lifetime ban from football, claims lawyer
Fifa vice-president Michel Platini could be given a lifetime ban from football, according to his lawyer who slammed the measures as "excessive".
Platini is currently serving a 90-day suspension alongside Sepp Blatter, while the governing body investigates corruption charges against the pair.
The former French international and Fifa boss Sepp Blatter have both denied wrongdoing over a "disloyal" £1.4m payment made from the latter to the former in 2011 for work performed nine years earlier.
On Monday Fifa's ethics investigators handed their findings in the matter to the governing body's adjudicatory committee, who are due to announce their judgement on the case next month.
But Platini's lawyer Thibaud d'Ales claimed Fifa's Ethics Committee requested a maximum lifetime ban for the Uefa boss, a punishment which he said would be "excessive" and a "scandal".
Platini was considered a frontrunner to replace Sepp Blatter as Fifa president when the Swiss first announced his intention to step down, but has now been prevented from taking part in the campaign.
Both men have appealed their bans and Platini has taken his case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas).
D'Ales claims to have proof of the Ethics Committee's request and will submit it to Cas as part of their case.
