Warwick racing betting: Foxbridge and Russe Blanc suited to slog
This weekend is one of the lower key ones of the National Hunt season; it will be even more so if Warwick is beaten by the weather on Saturday.
Rain has been the big threat over the past couple of weeks. Chepstow just escaped last Saturday, but it’s now frost that is the big worry.
If we do get the green light, the Classic Chase (3.35pm) is the big race and Alan King will be hoping for his third win in the last seven runnings.
He saddles favourite Sego Success and Midnight Prayer, who was the market leader for last week’s Welsh Grand National before coughing and being ruled out.
Stable jockey Wayne Hutchinson has opted for Sego Success and it’s easy to see why as he won very impressively at Doncaster last time.
My worry with him is that he has to carry 11st 12lb and that is going to be very hard in the conditions.
The other joint-top weight is Houblon Des Obeaux, who has plummeted down the weights over the past year.
He would have a massive chance on ratings, but he’s been very disappointing so far this season.
I’m going to opt for two lower rated animals, the first being Nigel Twiston-Davies’ FOXBRIDGE.
He ran a cracker to finish runner-up at Cheltenham on his reappearance and then put in a respectable display at Kempton over Christmas.
The step up in trip will suit and he has plenty of form on soft ground, so take the 14/1 with Betway.
Kerry Lee celebrated a massive winner last weekend and her RUSSE BLANC could give her another big success one week on at 20/1.
Very much in the mould of Mountainous, this nine-year-old doesn’t do anything quickly, but he’ll be staying on when plenty of this field have given up.
