Leicester City 0, Tottenham Hotspur 2: Pochettino boasts of squad depth as Spurs eye assault on three fronts
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino revelled in the depth of squad at his disposal after a much-changed Spurs side disposed of Premier League high-flyers Leicester in their FA Cup third-round replay last night.
A stunning strike from Son Heung-Min and second-half finish from Nacer Chadli booked Tottenham’s place in round four, where League One strugglers Colchester await.
The north London club made eight changes from Saturday’s thrashing of Sunderland, vital according to Pochettino given fourth-placed Spurs are vying for Champions League football and the Europa League resumes next month.
“My message is that we are Tottenham and we have a strong squad,” said Pochettino. “In every game and in every selection I think this is important because we are Tottenham.
“It’s important to keep all the players motivated. We are in a very difficult period of the season and we need all the players motivated and working hard with the expectation that they can play consistently.”
Son, a £22m summer signing from Bayer Leverkusen, lashed Tottenham ahead in the 39th minute when he drifted past teenage full-back Ben Chilwell and fizzed a dipping shot beyond Kasper Schmeichel.
The South Korean forward turned provider on 66 minutes, nutmegging Leicester centre-half Yohan Benalouane to play in Chadli who fired across Schmeichel for his first goal since August.
