Advertised salaries rebound as competition for places declines
Employers' advertised salaries are rebounding, new figures reveal.
Advertised pay rose 0.6 per cent in December to an average of £33,322, jobs site Adzuna said this morning, the second rise in ten months.
The number of vacancies dropped 6.4 per cent from November, but is up 20.3 per cent compared with the same month in 2014. There are now 0.54 job seekers per vacancy, down 35.7 per cent from December 2014. It suggests that candidates face less competition for jobs than they did a year ago.
“Rising advertised salaries are a strong sign of optimism for jobseekers. While wages for those in work have been rising, jobseekers have struggled to benefit recently, and the last year has seen starting salaries fall. December marks a real turning point, and advertised salaries may bounce back at long last over the next couple of months,” said Adzuna co-founder Doug Monro.
