London mayoral election 2016: Confederation of British Industry (CBI) wants Zac Goldsmith and Sadiq Khan to press the government on new runway
Britain’s biggest business group is calling on the next London mayor to commit to building 50,000 homes a year and lobby the government to build a new runway in the south east.
In its London Manifesto out today, the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) said Boris Johnson’s successor should “keep a relentless focus on business growth”and set out a new housing strategy within 100 days of taking office. The CBI also urged the next mayor to “press the government to deliver the Airports Commission’s recommendation to build a new runway in the south east”.
The Airports Commission first recommended building a third runway at Heathrow Airport last July. The government said in December that it would delay making a decision on expansion until this summer.
Both Conservative mayoral candidate Zac Goldsmith and Labour hopeful Sadiq Khan oppose a third runway at the west London airport.
