Bonmarche’s share price rises as it names Asda director Helen Connolly as new chief executive
Bonmarche has named Asda director Helen Connolly its new chief executive, replacing Beth Butterwick at the helm.
Connolly will take up the role at the womenswear retailer later this year. Bonmarche's share price rose almost two per cent on the news this morning.
She is currently senior buying director for George at Asda, where she is responsible for all women's clothing, non-clothing and male and female essentials, and has held a number of other roles at the supermarket's clothing arm. She has also worked at Next and Philip Green's Arcadia Group as head of buying for Dorothy Perkins.
Her appointment follows the surprise exit of Butterwick for Karen Millen, which was announced in December alongside a profit warning. The news prompted Bonmarche's share price to fall by as much as 22 per cent on the day.

Bonmarche chairman John Coleman said: "Helen's expertise in buying, merchandising, sourcing, product, and business development is first-class, and she has demonstrated a dedicated focus on delivering a high quality consumer experience.
"We look forward to welcoming her to Bonmarché and working with her to deliver further progress for the brand and the company."
