Bfinance
Bfinance, the independently owned investment consultancy, has appointed Peter Hobbsas managing director of private markets in the London office. He joins from MSCI where he was managing director for real estate research and key global accounts, responsible for benchmarking and portfolio analysis, risk services and method development. Prior to this, Peter held various senior global research and business development roles with IPD, RREEF – the alternatives asset management division of Deutsche Bank, and Property & Portfolio Research. Peter is a member of the US-based Real Estate Research Institute’s advisory board and the Asia-based Real Estate Investment Institute Global Advisory Council. In 2015 he was shortlisted for outstanding industry contribution at the IPE Real Estate Global Awards 2015. Peter has a PhD and is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
Olswang
International technology, media and telecoms (TMT) law firm Olswang has promoted two lawyers to its partnership – Joel Vertes and Matt Pollins. Joel, whose partnership is effective 1 May, will focus his London-based practice on further expanding the firm’s international franchising practice in the retail and leisure sectors and will continue his contentious and non-contentious IP work for Olswang’s tech, media and sports clients. With 13 years’ experience of advising on all aspects of IP, Joel now heads Olswang’s franchising and licencing team, acting for clients on a complex array of international transactions, such as overseas brand launches and licencing arrangements. Matt, who is based in Singapore, is a commercial lawyer with a particular focus on TMT and sourcing. He was appointed to the partnership in February. He advises clients from startups to global multinational corporations and governments on business and law in Asia. His practice spans commercial, transactional, regulatory and intellectual property advice across TMT, sourcing and supply chain, including e-commerce, cloud, data, cyber security, digital media, gaming and logistics. He is ranked by both Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners, and is described by The Legal 500 as a "digital media expert" and as being "plugged into the media and technology space".
Aon Hewitt
Aon Hewitt, the global talent, retirement and health solutions business of Aon, has announced the appointment of Michael Ferguson as a senior Public Sector governance consultant. Michael joins after four years as head of local government pension scheme new business at Hymans Robertson, where he was responsible for setting up and managing new business strategy for the public sector pensions team. He has over 20 years’ experience within the pensions industry, including previous roles at Aegon and HSBC, after starting his career at Standard Life. In his new role, Michael will be concentrating on helping public sector schemes to ensure they have robust, high quality governance arrangements in place.
