BHS administrators reassure staff over pay but say search for buyer still ongoing
BHS administrators have sought to reassure staff that they will continued to be paid as they seek a buyer for the ailing chain.
Duff & Phelps joint administrator Philip Duffy has issued a statement confirming that it has received "a number" of expressions of interest, understood to be more than 50, and that it continues to seek a sale as a going concern.
"We appreciate the hard work of staff that have ensured that stores have continued to trade as normal. Staff have been paid over the course of yesterday and today and we want to reassure them that they will continue to be so whilst the Group remains in administration, as a priority payment,” Duffy said.
On Monday, the 88-year-old retailer was placed in administration by its owners Retail Acquisitions, putting 11,000 jobs at risk.
Dominic Chappell, a former racing car driver who bought the business from Sir Philip Green last year, is also understood to be among the bidders after telling the BBC that he was interested in buying the whole group, albeit without the 40 loss-making stores.
