Dollar UK, a provider of consumer finance – both online and on the high street – has appointed Tony Deakin as its new chief financial officer. Tony, the former CFO of LaSer UK, the consumer finance arm of BNP Paribas, will report directly to chief executive Stuart Howard. Tony is a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and a member of the UK Association of Corporate Treasurers. Before moving to LaSer, Tony worked at Barclays Bank within the Barclaycard subsidiary, which included serving as the CFO for Barclaycard Germany, based in Hamburg. Prior to financial services, Tony gained experience in senior finance and treasury roles within the engineering, mobile phone and utilities sectors for businesses, including General Electric, the Caudwell Group and Severn Trent Water.
eToro
eToro, a global social trading network, has announced the appointment of Joe Hall as its managing director of business in the UK. Joe is the latest addition to a rapidly expanding team, following the recent appointment of Robert Brown as non-executive director. Along with Robert, Joe joins founder and chief executive Yoni Assia; UK managing director of finance and operations, Paul Chrimes; chief operating officer Avi Sela; and non-executive director Tony Wollenberg as directors of eToro UK.
Reed Smith
Global law firm Reed Smith has announced the appointment of Douglas Cherry, who joins the commercial disputes group EME as partner in the firm’s London office. Douglas joins from Eversheds, where he was a principal associate in the litigation and dispute management team and a key senior member of the financial disputes and investigations team. Douglas has extensive experience in leading major financial services and markets investigations and handling Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) enforcement matters. His practice focuses on advising banks, broker-dealers, investment management firms and other regulated firms responding to investigations by authorities, including the FCA and the prudential regulation authority.
Proskauer
International law firm Proskauer has appointed Joanne Owen as a partner in the firm’s private equity real estate group in London. Joanne focuses on complex, institutional and commercial real estate matters, with a particular emphasis on private equity, real estate finance and alternative vehicles for property investment.
