Betting: Stargazer can shine bright for Stoute and Moore at Ascot
There is a very competitive meeting at Ascot on Saturday afternoon with more than 80 horses taking part in the seven-race card.
It’s not going to be easy for punters, but I think they can strike it lucky by following the powerful Sir Michael Stoute-Ryan Moore combination in the 1m 4f Appletiser Stakes (3.10pm).
STARGAZER finished third in a decent 10f handicap at Goodwood last time, where he was doing all his best work in the closing stages.
Prior to that he won a hot-looking Sandown handicap over the same 10f trip back in April. There were some classy animals in behind that day and he looks to be a horse to follow.
He has clearly had a few niggles as he was off for three months, but tomorrow’s quicker ground at Ascot will suit.
As he is by Canford Cliffs, there has to be a slight doubt about the 1m 4f trip, but his dam was second in the 2009 Musidora so stamina shouldn’t really be a problem.
William Haggas’ Dal Harraild won well at Goodwood and he has to be a big threat, while Sixties Groove was another who ran well on the Sussex Downs and should be respected.
The preceding seven furlong Albert Bartlett Handicap (2.40pm) is wide open, but I’m going to take a chance on CHARLES MOLSON registering just his third win on his 30th start.
His last two runs have been excellent and he’s down to a mark only 2lbs lower than when finishing third in a six furlong handicap at this meeting 12 months ago.
Patrick Chamings’ team is in great order and he has booked promising apprentice Mitch Godwin who takes off another crucial 7lbs.
