US Open 2016: Kyle Edmund pockets biggest prize money payday of his career after beating John Isner in the third round
British No4 Kyle Edmund has scored the biggest payday of his tennis career to date with a shock fourth round victory over home favourite John Isner at the US Open.
Edmund will now face world No1 Novak Djokovic in a fourth round match which marks the furthest he has ever progressed at a Grand Slam tournament.
The 21-year-old beat big-serving Isner 6-4 3-6 6-2 7-6 across two hours and 43 minutes in Flushing Meadows, New York.
In doing so, he has guaranteed himself a career-high prize money paycheque of $235,000 (£176,765) from tennis’ richest tournament.

Edmund, part of Great Britain’s victorious Davis Cup winning team last year, caused the shock of the tournament so far by knocking out 2013 semi-finalist and world No14 Richard Gasquet in the first round.
But even if the British world No84 can’t top that with a sensational triumph over reigning champion Djokovic when they meet on Sunday, he can take solace in a prize money reward that will increase his total career earnings by 31 per cent and put him on the cusp of the $1m mark.
The US Open is tennis’ most generous tournament in terms of its pay outs to athletes, with this year’s singles winners due to earn a record $3.5m.
Players who exit at the fourth round leave the competition with $235,000 in prize money – not too bad for less than a week’s work.
That would take Edmund’s career earnings from $758,328 to $993,328.
Prior to arriving at the US Open, the South African-born player’s biggest payday came at Roland Garros in May where he took home €60,000 ($67,000/£50,400) for reaching the second round of the French Open.
Edmund and Djokovic have only met once before, at this year’s hard court Miami Masters where the Serb cruised to a 6-3 6-3 victory.
