Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino plays down Harry Kane’s goalscoring woes
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has doused concerns over goal-shy striker Harry Kane and backed the England forward to rejoin the goalscoring trail when his side travel to Stoke on Saturday.
Kane has not scored for 10 matches, since England’s pre-European Championship warm-up clash with Turkey at the City of Manchester Stadium in May.
The 23-year-old endured a similarly slow start to last season and went seven Premier League matches before breaking his duck, yet ended the campaign with 25 top-flight goals.
“It is about patience, time and hard work from him and I am sure he will start to score again,” said Pochettino. “He is starting to be much better.
“It was the same at the end of the 2014-15 season. He went away with England Under-21s and the expectation was to win the European Championships. But he didn’t score in three games and it was a big disappointment for him.
“Now it is the same situation but he is more mature and more experienced. It is a different period in his life and there is no doubt he will start to score again.”
Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is set to return after suffering a hamstring injury on the opening day of the season, although full-back Danny Rose is ruled out with the same injury.
