Crystal Palace full-back Pape Souare airlifted to hospital after car crash on M4
Crystal Palace full-back Pape Souare is set for a sustained spell on the sidelines after being airlifted to hospital having been involved in a car crash on the M4 on Sunday.
The Selhurst Park club have confirmed that the 26-year-old, who joined Palace from French side Lille in January 2015, suffered thigh and jaw injuries and would remain in hospital to receive treatment. The injuries are not life threatening.
“Crystal Palace Football Club regret to confirm that Pape Souare was yesterday [Sunday] involved in a car accident and taken to hospital in London,” read a statement.
“The player has sustained injuries to his thigh and jaw bone and will remain in hospital whilst he receives treatment. The club are liaising closely with the hospital on his progress and we wish him a speedy recovery.”
Souare was not part of Palace’s matchday squad as the Eagles posted their first Premier League win of the season by beating newly-promoted Middlesbrough 2-1 at the Riverside Stadium on Saturday.
