Forsters
Private client and real estate law firm Forsters has appointed Heather Corben as a partner in its tax practice.Heather is a senior tax lawyer, with many years' experience advising clients on complex tax issues arising from corporate and real estate transactions and structures. She has advised a range of major property companies and funds including British Land, Axa REIM, Brockton Capital, LaSalle Investment Management, British Airways Pension Fund and Heron. Heather was a partner for 19 years at King & Wood Mallesons (formerly SJ Berwin) and for 10 years was head of tax in the London office.
Smith & Williamson
Peter Ball is joining accountancy, investment management and tax group Smith & Williamson from EY. In his new role, he will be helping private clients, particularly business owners, with all aspects of their private tax affairs. Peter works with entrepreneurs, family groups, companies seeking venture capital investment and management teams, working with them so that their tax profiles are aligned with and complement their personal, family and business plans. A member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation, Peter will work from Smith & Williamson’s London and Cheltenham offices.

Thomas Miller Investment has appointed Simon Nicol as pension principal. Simon has significant pensions experience and is highly regarded in the sector for his knowledge, experience and insight relating to pension planning & legislation, both Onshore UK and Offshore. Simon has worked for a number of pension consultancies and wealth management businesses and joins Thomas Miller Investment from Broadstone Corporate Benefits. He will provide technical expertise to clients and to our professional partners, particularly within the accountancy and legal professions.
CFA Institute
CFA Institute, the global association of investment professionals, has appointed Gary Baker as managing director of CFA Institute Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Based in London, Gary will lead the EMEA team to deliver measurable value to CFA Institute stakeholders and constituents throughout the region. He will be responsible for the strategic direction of the EMEA region and will work to strengthen relationships with member societies, institutions, universities, regulators, and institutional partners. He has previously served as managing director, deputy head of research, with Jefferies, and as managing director, chief European equity strategist, Merrill Lynch.
