Mauricio Pochettino confirms when he expects Harry Kane to return to full training as key midfielder suffers injury setback
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that prolific marksman Harry Kane is set to return to full training next week as he continues his recovery from an ankle injury.
Kane damaged ankle ligaments during his side’s Premier League victory over Sunderland last month and it was initially feared the England forward would be sidelined for up to two months.
Scan results provided a better prognosis, and while Pochettino is unable to provide an exact return date for his prized striking asset, the Argentine is positive about Kane’s chances of returning to action sooner rather than later.
“At the end of this week he can start to train and touch the grass a little bit,” said Pochettino of Kane, who has missed Tottenham’s last four matches.
“He’s very positive and he is doing well and we hope next week he can start training on the pitch. He’s still not with the group but we are happy with the way he is recovering from injury.”
Midfielder Mousa Dembele, meanwhile, is a doubt for Saturday’s showdown against West Brom after suffering the recurrence of a foot injury. The 29-year-old will undergo tests on Friday to determine his availability for the Hawthorns clash.
“It is painful for him when he is in contact with the ball,” added Pochettino. “It is an old problem and he is now recovering from it.”
Belgium midfielder Dembele has made just two appearances for Spurs this term and at the beginning of last season was out for five weeks with the same foot injury.
