Leicester City 1, FC Copenhagen 0: Claudio Ranieri demands Premier League improvement after European smiles widen
Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri demanded Premier League improvement after his side moved to within touching distance of the Champions League knockout phase with victory over FC Copenhagen.
Algeria playmaker Riyad Mahrez scored the only goal of the game five minutes before the break as Leicester became only the fifth side in history to win their first three matches in Europe’s premier club competition.
The Foxes sit top of Group G, five points clear of Danish champions FC Copenhagen, which is in complete contrast to their domestic form which sees Leicester in 13th place.
“Now we have to change in the Premier League because we cannot continue in this way,” said Ranieri. “This is now our goal.”
Mahrez proved the match-winner from club record signing Islam Slimani’s knockdown as half time approached, although Leicester were indebted to Kasper Schmeichel’s stunning late save.
