Shoppers spent over £2bn using Visa cards on Black Friday
UK shoppers spent more than £2bn using Visa cards on Black Friday this year.
The figure was up 13 per cent on last year's, and half of the spend was made online.
Visa said that there has also been a strong uptake in contactless payments, across all age groups. Among those aged between 55 and 64, contactless payments have grown 64 per cent in the past year.

Kevin Jenkins, UK and Ireland managing director at Visa, said: "We continue to see an increase in the shift from cash to cards when people do their Christmas shopping. This is driven by British consumers' increased familiarity with contactless cards and other digital payment systems.
"Consumers are now armed with a variety of new ways to pay, such as wearables and a range of digital wallet options on their mobile devices. These options provide consumers shopping in store with a number of fast, easy and secure ways to buy."
The cheap deals continued yesterday, with a host of offers planned for Cyber Monday.
But some of the deals over Black Friday weekend (as it is now known) weren't as good as they might have seemed. Some of the "cut" prices from Amazon were actually the same as the normal prices at John Lewis.
